Overview of Hyderabad Metro Rail Project
The metro rail project, being executed in a pubic private partnership on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis, was conceived to ease the traffic woes in the city. It would have three corridors crisscrossing the city covering 71. 16 km.
L & T bagged the project contract when fresh bids were called for the project after Maytas Infra failed to achieve the financial closure by due date. The Rs 12,132 crore project is expected to take five years for completion. This is the first project in PPP model and the government of India committed to provide Rs 1,458 crore as capital grant under the viability gap-funding scheme.
The elevated metro rail system will have two tracks with 61 stations planned at distance of one km and providing passengers access through staircases, escalators and lifts. There would be trains at a frequency of 3 to 5 minutes and the system is expected to carry about 14.76 lakh passengers per day by 2015 and 22.13 lakh passengers per day by 2025.
Fares for the Metro Rail have been pegged between Rs. 8 and Rs. 19. The average fare will be Rs. 12.All stations will have AC minibus services to nearby colonies, business establishments and other popular places.Smart card based automatic ticketing and gate systems for passengers will also be provided.
